Because of his autism, Elias attended special education, where he learned a great deal about himself. It was not always easy, and sport did not come naturally to him either.
Later, in the support centre where he moved on to, he found his place: he met new people, learned to live with different disabilities and rediscovered the joy of sport.
That is where he first discovered the Special Olympics Belgium National Games. In his first year he could not take part yet, but he was allowed to travel to Brussels as a supporter.
"What I saw there was truly impressive: people with all kinds of disabilities taking part in sport together."
